Brian Tracy cuts to the core of what is vital to effective time management: decision, discipline, and determination. An excellent book to get your productivity up and your life in the right direction. These are my notes from the book as understood by me.
Your “Frog” is your biggest, most important task. Discipline yourself to begin immediately and then to persist until the task is completed.
Develop the lifelong habit of tackling your major tasks first thing each morning.
Take action immediately, work steadily and single mindedly until the tasks are completed.
Develop the habit of success – Your success in life and work will be determined by the kinds of habits that you develop over time. Once the behavior becomes a habit, it becomes both automatic and easy to do.
The three key qualities to habit formation are
- Decision
- Discipline
- Determination
Visualize yourself as you want to be – the person you intend to be in future
CHAPTER 1 – SET THE TABLE
Clarity is the most important concept in personal productivity. The greater clarity you have regarding “What you want” and the steps you will have to take to achieve it, the easier it will be for you to “EAT THE FROG” and complete the task before you
Powerful formula for setting and achieving Goals
- Decide exactly what you want
- Write it down
- Set a deadline on your goal; set sub deadlines if necessary
- Make a list of everything you can think of that you are going to have to achieve the goal
- Organize the list into a plan
- Take action immediately
- Resolve to do something every single day that moves you towards your major goal.
Clear written goals have a wonderful effect on your thinking and the fuel in furnace of achievement.
CHAPTER 2 – PLAN EVERY DAY IN ADVANCE
“How can you eat an elephant?” – Answer “One bite at a time”
Taking action without thinking things through is a prime source of problems.
Every minute spent in planning saves as many as ten minutes in execution
Always work from a list. When something new comes up, add it to the list before you do it.
Make your list the night before for the work day ahead
CHAPTER 3 – APPLY THE 80/20 RULE TO EVERYTHING
20% of your activities will account for 80% of your results. 20% of your customers will account for 80% of your sales etc.
Before you begin work, always ask if the task is in the top 20% of my activities or the bottom 80%.
TIME MANAGEMNET IS REALLY LIFE MANAGEMENT!
